Welcome to The Builder’s 2nd Opinion. By purchasing or using any product or service offered through this website, you agree to the following Terms & Conditions.
Purpose of the Service
The Builder’s 2nd Opinion provides educational information and homeowner preparation services intended to help homeowners become better informed, better organized, and better prepared for conversations concerning remodeling and residential construction projects.
The service is based on Michael Stoler’s experience as a former custom home builder. It is intended to provide an experienced builder’s perspective and help homeowners identify questions, considerations, and subjects they may wish to discuss with their own contractors and other professionals.
Not Construction or Professional Services
The Builder’s 2nd Opinion is not acting as your contractor, architect, engineer, building inspector, attorney, accountant, code official, or other licensed professional.
No plans, drawings, specifications, contracts, job sites, workmanship, structural conditions, building-code compliance, costs, bids, schedules, or contractor performance are inspected, approved, certified, guaranteed, or supervised by The Builder’s 2nd Opinion.
Information provided through the website, written materials, questionnaire, email communications, or personal consultation is educational in nature and should not replace advice from qualified professionals familiar with your particular project and location.
Homeowners remain responsible for their own decisions and for verifying information with their contractor, architect, engineer, attorney, building department, or other appropriate professional.
Products and Services
The Builder’s 2nd Opinion currently offers homeowner preparation materials and an optional personal review and consultation.
The $49 Homeowner Preparation Package provides educational and planning materials for the homeowner’s own use.
The $149 Complete Package includes the preparation materials plus review of the homeowner’s completed questionnaire and a personal consultation.
A customer who initially purchases the $49 package may purchase the $100 Consultation Upgrade to receive the additional review and consultation included with the complete package.
The personal consultation is based primarily on information supplied by the homeowner. The Builder’s 2nd Opinion does not independently verify that information.
Consultations
Consultations are conducted remotely and are intended as educational conversations. No site visit or physical inspection of the homeowner’s property or construction work is included.
The homeowner is encouraged to complete and return the requested questionnaire before the consultation so the available consultation time can be used effectively.
No particular project result, cost savings, contractor performance, construction outcome, or resolution of a dispute is promised or guaranteed.
Digital Materials
Planning guides, questionnaires, checklists, and other materials supplied through The Builder’s 2nd Opinion are for the purchaser’s personal use only.
They may not be reproduced, resold, republished, distributed, or used commercially without written permission.
Payments, Cancellations and Refunds
Payment is required at the time of purchase. Refunds and cancellations are governed by the Refund and Cancellation Policy published on this website.
Customer Responsibility
Customers are responsible for providing accurate and complete information. Decisions concerning contractors, contracts, design, materials, financing, permits, construction methods, schedules, and the project itself remain solely the homeowner’s responsibility.
The homeowner should independently investigate contractors and other professionals and verify licensing, insurance, references, credentials, permits, and other requirements applicable in the homeowner’s location.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Builder’s 2nd Opinion and Michael Stoler shall not be responsible for losses, damages, costs, delays, construction defects, disputes, contractor actions, decisions made by the homeowner, or other consequences arising from a homeowner’s project or from reliance upon educational information provided through the service.
The service does not guarantee that every potential problem, question, expense, condition, or consideration relating to a construction or remodeling project will be identified.
